In an attempt to overcome the neglect of the needs of adapatation to present climate dangers and possible emerging climate change, a number of papers and interview have been prepared. We offer some of these documents her.
A clear disucssion of the problem was offered by Dan Sarewitz and Roger Pielke in 2000 in "Breaking the Global-Warming Gridlock". On 15/16 May 2003, a workshop entitled "Mitigation and Adaptation in Climate Change" was taking place at the Kulturwissenschaftliches Institut in Essen, Germany. The German Ministry for Science and Education (BMBF) published in 2003 a consensus report (Herausforderung Klimawandel),about the perspective of climate change.
In early/mid August 2003 the topic was discussed in German media, in particular in interviews with Nico Stehr in ZEIT on 14 August 2003, and Hans von Storch in SPIEGEL on 18 August 2003 (Leserbriefe; see also Christian Pfister's press release.), in Neue Zürcher Zeitung on 31 August 2003 and in Weltwoche (18. Dec. 2003). A shortened essay "Wer keine Deiche baut, muss weichen" by Hans von Storch and Thomas Hauf was published in Süddeutsche Zeitung on 18 August 2003 (full version: "Klima ist gefährlich").
Roger Pielke jun. came up with another enlightening article on this matter in December 2003.
The concept was presented to the Energieagentur EnAW in Switzerland als a talk on the conference "Klimaschutz als unternehmerische Verantwortung – Die Schweizer Wirtschaft zwischen Freiwilligkeit und Zwang" in Zürich, 12. November 2003, see here (English version).
